TR ring for temperature Safety and Adaptability: Key Features for Your Sedal Cartridges

At Sedal, innovation is our passion, and we always try to improve each project with the newest solutions. When something works well, we keep it in our portfolio and adjust it as needed so it fits most of our catalog. Our TR ring is a great example of this. Even though we have been using it for a long time, it still makes sense. We have perfected and adapted it to most of our cartridges, offering it in different sizes and cutting angles to fit the market and our cartridges.

Our TR ring is specially designed to provide safety and save energy. It works by limiting the lever turn for hot water, making the water mix cooler and using less hot water. This also means it has a safety feature for the user. As we limit the hot water more and more, the mixed water will never be hot enough to burn the user, even when the handle is in the full hot position.

To understand this better, let’s talk about how it works and why it helps. This TR ring is designed for any cartridge size (from our smallest 25 mm to the largest 45 mm). It has incisions on the inside part of the ring that match the teeth of the lever. This way, when we move the lever (and the handle), we will have a stopper before the standard movement is finished.

These teeth represent a specific number of degrees for the hot water opening. So when we move the ring tooth by tooth, we can control how many degrees of hot water we are limiting and, by that, the final hot temperature the user will get. Here is an example: If you are using our TOP 35 mm cartridge, you can have a ring with 40 incisions that match the 40 teeth the cartridge has. Since there are 40 teeth, and we have a 360º lever circle, each tooth or incision represents 9º. Let’s assume we are in a standard environment where the maximum hot water temperature is 60-65 ºC, and the minimum cold water temperature is 10-15 ºC. The TOP 35 mm cartridge has a 45º turning angle on both sides, as you can see in this picture:

As you can see, the movement is the same on both sides, with 38 ºC at the center of the movement. When we add the TR ring in its first position, it reduces the turn on the left side, reducing the hot water intake and cooling the water mix. In this case, each tooth represents a 9º angle reduction. The movement now becomes 36º on the hot side, keeping the 45º angle on the cold side.

If it is still too hot for the user, we can move one by one the teeth, reducing 9º each time on the hot side, achieving a 9º angle and a maximum hot temperature of 41 ºC.

This way, we can adjust it to each client’s preference. If necessary, our TR ring can be adjusted even after installation without removing the cartridge, ensuring it works well and performs at its best.

Continuing our effort to ensure safety and save energy.
